What is a Check-Up?
A check-up, also known as a general health screening, is a process that provides individuals with comprehensive information about their health status. Healthy individuals also opt for regular check-ups to help with the early detection of health problems. This process, which includes more than just lab tests and examinations, provides information about the body's overall condition and is shaped by an individual's age, gender, genetic characteristics, lifestyle, and medical history. Since it is recommended for individuals with chronic illnesses to have regular health screenings after the age of 40, a check-up becomes very important.
Why Should You Get a Check-Up?
A check-up is one of the most important steps in the process of early diagnosis and treatment. Regular screenings can help you take precautions against diseases by detecting potential health problems in their early stages.
The screenings can also reveal the early signs of cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. This allows you to quickly take preventive measures and manage the course of the disease with your doctor.
What to Pay Attention to Before a Check-Up?
When you decide to get a general health screening, it is very important to know how the process will be carried out. By taking the following warnings into account, you can learn what to expect during your check-up process.
- If you have any previous test results, bring them with you for the doctors to review.
- Do not consume any food for 12 hours before your check-up.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, considering that some tests may involve physical activity.
- Note that it is not appropriate for women to have a check-up during their menstrual period.
- If you are using any vitamin, iron, or mineral supplements, stop using them.
- If you have a habit of consuming alcohol, stop it for 3 days before the check-up.
