The First Scientific Meeting of Nuclear Medicine Technicians Held at Biruni

The “1st Nuclear Medicine Technicians Symposium,” organized for the first time through the collaboration of Biruni University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, the Turkish Nuclear Medicine Technicians Association, and Marmara Nuclear Medicine (MNT), was held with high participation at the Biruni University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Conference Hall. The event brought together technicians, specialist physicians, and academicians working in the field of nuclear medicine from different centers across Türkiye, addressing current topics that contribute to professional development.

The importance of multidisciplinary collaboration was emphasized at the opening

The opening speeches of the symposium were delivered by Medical Director Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yaman, Chief Physician Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Sert, Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine Prof. Dr. Burçak Yılmaz, and Specialist Dr. Cengiz Taşçı. The speakers highlighted the importance of teamwork in nuclear medicine services, the contribution of technological advancements to healthcare, and the necessity of continuous education.

Comprehensive content ranging from radiation safety to AI-supported imaging

In the first session of the symposium, the roles, responsibilities, and radiation safety of nuclear medicine technicians were discussed. The sessions also covered imaging artifacts and sources of error encountered in nuclear medicine imaging, providing participants with insights on preventing such issues.

In the second session, quality control tests applied in SPECT and PET systems were evaluated interactively. Participants had the opportunity to gain knowledge on maintaining quality standards and improving imaging processes. Additionally, new technologies used in nuclear medicine imaging and recent developments in the field were also discussed.

Patient safety and quality-focused practices were shared

In the afternoon sessions, comprehensive presentations were delivered on manipulations encountered during PET/CT imaging, IV and oral contrast imaging techniques, image control processes, and potential side effects. Good radiopharmacy practices aimed at improving quality in nuclear medicine applications, critical considerations in technetium kits, and quality control processes were also shared with participants. In the final part of the symposium, the importance of patient safety and accurate anamnesis was emphasized, along with current approaches to the storage and documentation of cold kits.

Concluded with a certificate and award ceremony

Following the scientific program held throughout the day, a knowledge assessment exam was conducted for participants. Those who were successful in the exam were awarded, and the symposium concluded with a certificate and award ceremony.
