Why Is Breaking the Fast with Dates Beneficial?
Millions of Muslims around the world traditionally break their fast with dates during Ramadan. Because of both its place in religious tradition and its nutritional value, dates are considered an essential part of iftar tables.

Dates, a staple of iftar tables during Ramadan, are not only a traditional choice but also a nutritionally powerful food from a scientific perspective.
After prolonged fasting, the body’s first need is energy. Blood sugar levels that decrease during fasting seek to rebalance with iftar. Thanks to the natural sugars they contain, dates help restore this balance quickly. Moreover, they do not consist only of simple sugars; their complex carbohydrate structure also provides longer lasting energy. This helps prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels.

Dates are rich in these nutrients, allowing the body to quickly obtain essential nutritional elements needed after prolonged hunger.
Should We Be Concerned About Dehydration?
Despite being a dried fruit, dates do not cause dehydration. The potassium they contain helps cells retain fluid. For this reason, consuming dates together with water supports both energy levels and fluid balance.
